Anglo-Japanese
cultural discussions in English:
Human Japanese Forum – This seems to be
quite a big site, and constantly active, too.
Jock Samurai – This, apparently, is an Edinburgh-based
website. It seems to be a quiet affair
as websites go, but it certainly is one of those rare sites that make you feel
glad you have visited them. There are
forums in it. Click here.
Sheffield University Japan Society – This is a
small but interesting site that comprises some forums on Japan and the Japanese
language. Click here.
Japan-based
forums in English:
Japan-guide.com Forum – This is a part of
the Japan-guide.com website that helps you on cultural topics when you are
travelling to Japan. You can ask
questions and get answers, and you can place ads, too. Click here.
Japanese Lifestyle Japan Forum – This is again a
part of a “comprehensive cultural guide to Japan” type of website. Though I have some reservations about the
parent site, I find the forum quite good.
London-based
stores for Japanese language textbooks (for self-study & tuition):
Grant & Cutler – This is the biggest foreign language bookstore in the UK. They have an excellent selection of textbooks
in the Japanese language. Because this
store is an established academic supplier, they have a strong focus on language
teaching/learning materials for English speaking learners. Click here.
Japan Centre – There is a bookshop in the basement.
As well as books in Japanese for Japanese people visiting or staying in
London, they also have an excellent selection of textbooks in the Japanese
language. Here you will find arguably
the best stock on guidebooks and area studies books on Japan, and on Japanese
fiction translated into English. Click here.
More to
come! Please be patient and wait.
